Child Safety: Starting an Online Account
Submitted by Krissy_1
For years, my daughter never showed any interest in having a MySpace page, even though all her friends had one. But recently she has started claiming that all of her friends keep teasing her because she doesn't have a profile and that she wants one. At first I told her no because I was always taught never to reveal myself on the computer or anywhere in the interest of child safety. But she kept insisting on getting one. I didn't know what to do, so I went to my sister for more information since she allows her children to have MySpace pages.
She said yes, MySpace can be bad, but only if you or your children want it to be. There are many things you can do to keep your MySpace profile private so no one but the people you want to can see it. So in the end, I let my daughter create one. Although I wasn't 100 percent positive about it, I want to trust my daughter will make the right decisions.
