April Fools' Day Ideas
Submitted by Erin
Whoopee cushions are soooo played out. But who's got time to plan a prank? We do! So here are some awesome (and easy!) pranks to try out this April Fools' Day.
Hilariously tasty food pranks: Food pranks are always a big hit (especially with the under-10 crowd). For a super-simple breakfast prank, try this cool colored-milk trick. Or try this mixed-up sushi recipe that looks like the real (raw) stuff but ... pssst! ... it's made with strawberries and bananas.
At lunchtime, swipe some plastic food from your kid's kitchen and send your kid to school with plastic food in his or her lunchbox. (Just be sure you have a real-food replacement, or expect a call from the principal's office!) Eating at home? Make your kid a grilled "cheese" sandwich out of sponge cake and frosting, or these yummy cookie chicken nuggets.
For dinner, try eating dessert first, or serving breakfast for dinner. You could also make sweet things taste salty (think: meat pie) and salty things taste sweet (check out this fake baked potato recipe). If you really want to go all out, make this kitty litter cake (gag alert: this ain't for the faint of heart).
Tricky games and giggle-fit-inducing pranks: April Fools' Day is all about getting your kids laughing (and not at you, for once). Start the day off on the right (or should we say wrong) side of the bed by pulling off a bed swap. Make a gummy aquarium with floating gummy fish or make doodads dance on their own with the magnetic boogie game. Later, try making some April Fools' Day magic by teaching your kid some cool ways to trick their friends (like Abbra Coin-dabra). You can even put all this hilarity to good use by helping your kid make an April Fools' Joke Book for sick kids at a local hospital.
Share the foolish love: If you pulled off a big April Fools' Day prank (or if you got duped big-time by someone else), spill it on our April Fools' Day thread. We could all use a good laugh right now—so let us in on the fun—and nab some more great ideas from other prank-happy parents just like you. You'll get 'em next year, for sure!
Happy April Fools' Day!
