The great thing about the Fourth of July is that there's usually so much going on, kids don't have a chance to get bored. The bad thing is that with so much going on, they do have extra chances to get injured.
We hear ya, you're not a "helicopter mom," but it just makes sense to take a few precautions to make sure that nothing gets in the way of kids' fun while they're doing their Fourth of July activities. With just a few sensible steps, you can turn kids loose to play without worrying.

Before letting the kids loose to do outdoor Fourth of July activities, protect their skin. If you don't, you may be regretful later, when your lobster-child is too sore and grumpy to take in fireworks.
Kids need more than cookies and cotton candy to fuel a full day of running around. Get them to take an occasional break for a glass of water or healthy snack. Remember - if they're scarfing down sugar all day, theyll be bouncing off the walls all night. No thank you!
No matter how much they beg and plead, kids have no business lighting fireworks. Think about it - do you want to be one of those parents in the emergency room at midnight? This is one occasion where it's better to be safe than sorry. Give kids some sparklers or noisemakers to play with, and make sure that grownups light everything else.
