Fourth of July Crafts: Clothes on the Cheap

Submitted by sodaWater

For a great way to feel celebratory on the Fourth of July (on the cheap!), hit up Old Navy the day before July Fourth and buy all of your adorable patriotic Fourth of July clothing then! If for some reason it's not on sale, buy it on the fifth for next year (just in a size bigger for the kids!).

Or you can wear the colors of the flags with clothes you already own. For instance, a white T-shirt paired with blue jeans and a red belt make for a great The Fourth of July outfit.

If you're feeling super creative, try tie-dyeing an old T-shirt for cheap. Here's how:

  • A plain white T-shirt
  • Rubber bands
  • Dye from a craft store in The Fourth of July red, white and blue
  • Rubber gloves to protect your hands
  • A 5-gallon pail or bucket
  • An old wooden spoon that you don't mind throwing out after you use it
  • Newspaper or a garbage bag to place under the bucket for spills
  • Paper towels for clean-up
  • How to Do it:

  • Wash the item you're going to tie-dye
  • Lay your shirt out flat
  • Prepare the dye according to instructions.
  • Dye according to instructions, using the rubber bands to clump and hold areas of the shirt.
  • When it's done, wash them by themselves in the washer.
  • Enjoy your Fourth of July!
