Grab a ruler, some markers and ribbon and help your kid put those boring old graduation announcements to shame with these crafty handmade ones.
  • White paper
  • Colored cardstock paper
  • Marker
  • Ribbon:
In your kid's school colors or his favorite colors.
  • A ruler
  • Scissors
  • A diploma to copy:
Dust off yours if you can find it!
  • Paper towel rolls:
    One per mailed announcement.
  • Duct tape
  • Aluminum foil
  • Glue
  • 1
Grab a piece of white printer paper and help your kid write "Diploma" on the top/center in bold, pretty calligraphy-like letters.
  • 2
Drop down a couple of inches and write "Honoring our graduate..." (or something like that). Draw a straight blank line below the words.
  • 3
Have your kid write his name on the blank line.
  • 4
Next, write "For graduation from..." and draw another straight black line below it.
  • 5
Have your kid write in his school, grade, etc. on the second line.
  • 6
Finally, write "Awarded on..." and draw a third line below it.
  • 7
Have your kid fill in the date of his graduation on the bottom line.
  • 8
Then take the announcement to a photocopier and copy it onto pretty colored cardstock paper.
  • 9
Have your kid trace several circles onto the aluminum foil. The circles should be roughly 1½ to 2 inches across. You'll need one for each invitation.
  • 10
While your kid traces circles, cut two 1-inch pieces of ribbon per invitation. Cut the ends of the ribbon diagonally.
  • 11
Next, cut out the aluminum foil circles.
  • 12
Now your kid can turn the foil and ribbons into an "official seal." Help your kid glue one circle and two pieces of ribbon onto the bottom of each invitation. The ribbons should stick out from under the circle at about 5 o'clock and 7 o'clock, if you think of the circle as a clock.
  • 13
When the seals have dried, help your kid roll each announcement up and tie it in the center with another piece of ribbon just like a real diploma.
  • 14
If he's mailing out any graduation announcements, have your kid stuff them into used paper towel rolls.
  • 15
Seal the edges of the paper towel roll with duct tape.
  • 16
Write the recipient's address clearly on the outside and take them to the post office to send them off.
  • Want invites that are a little more polished? Download a fancy blackletter font on your computer, type up the invites, print them out and then let your kid handwrite the info on the lines.
