Square invites are so boring! Help your kid make a graduation announcement or invite in the shape of a mortarboard.
- White printer paper
- A thick black marker
- Pens and colored markers
- Yarn
- Hole Puncher
- Photocopier
- Glitter
- Ruler
- Scissors
- Envelopes
Sketch the outline of a small, invite-sized graduation mortarboard onto a white piece of paper with a thick black marker. Use a ruler to get straight lines. (You can also just print a mortarboard from a free clip art site and head to a photocopier to make a bunch of enlarged copies.) If you're going to mail your announcements, make sure they fit into an envelope!
Help your kid write the details of his graduation or grad party on the mortarboard.
Then go to a photocopy shop and photocopy as many copies as needed.
Help your kid cut out all the invites along the outside lines of the mortarboards.
To make graduation tassels, cut a length of yarn and have your kid wrap it around three or four of his outstretched fingers three or four times. Leaving about 8-inches of string unwrapped.
Grab the unwrapped end and wrap it around the loop a few times, about 3/4 of an inch from the end. Tie a small piece of yarn over it to secure.
Cut open the long loops open on the opposite end to make the tassel.
Repeat so you have one per invite.
Punch a hole in the upper left corner of each invite.
Tie a tassel onto each invite.
Pour a little glitter into the envelopes.
Ship them off to all your friends and relatives. Make sure you have the right postage!
