High Calcium Foods for Kids

We all know that kids need calcium. Getting enough calcium from childhood through adulthood (especially during those teen years) helps build strong bones and teeth. A diet rich in calcium also helps prevent osteoporosis and colon cancer.

But we also know that it's not always easy to get kids to drink their milk. Luckily, while while dairy products are a great source of calcium, they are not the only foods high in calcium.

In addition to milk, cheese, and yogurt, these are some other high calcium foods:

  • Veggies like broccoli, collards, bok choy and spinach
  • Almonds
  • Tofu, firm, with added calcium sulfate or soy milk with added calcium
  • Soybeans and baked beans
  • Orange juice with added calcium

Of course, ice cream, chocolate milk and frozen yogurt have calcium, but you might not want to overdo it because of all of the sugar!
