Are "white wheat" whole-grain breads any healthier than plain old white bread?
Since white whole-wheat breads are made with a type of whole-wheat flour, they have more fiber than breads made with refined flour.
Why are these whole wheat breads "white"? A different grain variety called "white wheat" is used so the bread looks white, where traditionally a red wheat variety has been used for whole wheat flour. As with any bread, look at the ingredient list to see if the main ingredients are whole wheat or whole grain. Don't judge just by the color of the bread. A browner bread might not necessarily be whole grain.
