Childhood Illnesses: Long-Lasting Flu Symptoms

My child has flu-like symptoms that won't go away. Could this be something more than the flu?

While symptoms tend to be worst in the first week, children may feel fatigued for days or weeks after a true infection with influenza or a similar virus. Repeated symptoms also may be a sign of your child's having different viral infections, one after another—a possibility that is not uncommon during cold-and-flu season.

Still, since there are some rare diseases that can affect a child's joints and energy levels, it's a good idea to have your child checked by a pediatrician anytime symptoms last longer than you might expect.
