Childhood Illnesses: Natalie Morales on Rotavirus
Submitted by Natalie Morales
I can understand why people would be skeptical of the new rotavirus vaccine, but if you have a child in day care or in a playgroup, it's good to be aware of rotavirus, because it's such a contagious and severe childhood illness.
My 5-year-old son, Josh, got rotavirus when he was a baby (before the vaccine came out). Then I got it, then my husband got it ... and it was two days of the worst diarrhea and misery ever. I was happy when I heard that a vaccine came out, and I quickly got my younger son, Luke, vaccinated.
Even if your child isn't vaccinated, encourage frequent hand washing so there's less chance they'll catch something highly contagious and gross. Trust me: This is one bug you don't want your kids to get! It's horrible!
