What to Do if a Baby Stops Breathing
As a mom, you probably worry about your kid choking on that Lego he's been chewing on (even after you've told him a gazillion times to take it out of his mouth), and with good reason. Choking is one of the leading causes of death for young kids. Here's what to do if your baby stops breathing:
report abuse- Call 911 right away.
- Check to see if anything is blocking your baby's airway and remove any foreign objects.
- If you know CPR, administer it immediately. Don't attempt to administer CPR without training. A medical expert may be able to talk you through it on the phone if you're untrained.
- All parents should take a first aid and CPR class in case of such an emergency (add that to the top of your "To Do" list!).
- Do your best to remain calm (although we know it won't be easy!).
