To get my big kid, Mason, sleeping in a big-boy room, we got him what he totally wanted—a fish tank—and put it in his room. It gives him something to look forward to every time he goes down for a nap and to bed at night. We make a game of feeding the fishies and saying good night to them too. Without it, I don't think he would have ever left his crib. If your kid doesn't like fish, try another easy pet, like hermit crabs or lizards.
