Third time's the charm—but "the rule of threes" can also work in the negative. That means that if you don't want something to become habit, you probably shouldn't do it three times in a row. So, if you want to cuddle your exhausted kid until he's sleeping two nights in a row, go for it, but skip the third night in a row or you might suddenly be spending your evenings sleeping in bed with your kids instead of your partner!
