Do babies with Down syndrome have a lot of medical issues?
While there is an increased risk of several different medical conditions or diseases associated with Down syndrome, the majority of infants with DS do not have any more medical problems than other infants. Forty percent of babies with Down syndrome are born with a heart defect, and less than half of those need surgical correction.
