Kids With Special Needs: Asperger's Syndrome

I have a child who is 11 and has high-functioning Asperger's syndrome and is also having oppositional behavior. What is a good system that would encourage compliance for everyday things like coming to the table at dinnertime, self-care (teeth, showers), etc? He is very visual. So I need something simple that will keep him and me on task with everyday compliance, something that will calm us both and take the emotion out of it.

All children respond well if you reward their good behavior. And it sounds like in your son's case especially, a reward board sounds like the best idea! Get a magnetic white board and apply pictures of the activities, then a decorative magnet next to each one to show it has been completed! This will give him a sense of accomplishment and give you the calmness you desire. Good luck!
