Parenting Kids: It All Comes Down to Love
Submitted by Nicki
When I sent my first son off to school 16 years ago, tears flooded my cheeks. How did my little boy grow up so quickly? Now he heads off to college again and I send my youngest daughter to seventh grade, with three kids filling up the middle slots.
I thought I knew so much back when my son was in kindergarten ... I was the super-mom type—homemade lunches with notes, bread baking as the bus pulled up to the house, crafts to be done, reading each and every night—overachieving parent extraordinaire! What was I thinking????
I have learned that while it is great to do what you can for each child, there is a limit. It is not possible to do it all for five. What it all comes down to is love. If I love and emotionally support my children, telling them truthfully how special they are, they will find their way in the world. Less can be more: Less running to gymnastics, dance, music lessons, soccer practice, etc., means more family time! My advice? Slow down and show the love!
