The Best Way to Protect Your Kid from Cyberbullying
What is the ONE most important thing we can do to protect our kids from cyberbullying?
I would have to say that the one thing everyone can do is to help your kid develop empathy. If we all knew what it felt like to be targeted by put-downs and mean comments, then I think we wouldn't do it. And, if your kid has empathy, then that will help him or her to stand up to a bully because they would understand how the victim felt, and know how great it feels to be lifted up by someone else.
But, as for something concrete, I would say that the best thing parents can do is to help kids understand that the Internet is a great resource and a great source of community. We should treat it with respect—and that means treating other members of the community with the respect you would like afforded to you, too.
