What's with kids using the word "gay" as an insult?
The use of "gay" as negative adjective is an increasingly common practice in American culture. Many children and adults use the term to refer to anything bad, weak or otherwise undesirable. Although kids may not have bad intentions when they say it, such language only reinforces the idea that "gay" is "bad." Also, the language can do significant damage to gay and lesbian students, who are forced to endure such language with little recourse.
