report abuse- Ask for your kid's help! Instead of saying, "Pick up your toys!" ask your kid if he can help mommy pick up the toys because she's super-duper tired and he's so good at cleaning up!
- Limit choices! Young kids get overwhelmed easily. So stick to two choices for everything. If your kid is only offered broccoli or carrots, he'll be less likely to demand ice cream.
- Create routines! Kids thrive on routine. If they know that teeth brushing comes after stories they'll be more likely to go with the flow and not battle you. You may even want to create a chart that shows what comes next so the chart is the big bad boss, not you.
- Let things slide sometimes. If it's not a huge deal to you, let your kid win. If he wants to wear his superhero costume to school and you want him to wear jeans, just let him win. Save your energy for the big battles!
