David Deluise on Overachieving Kids

Submitted by Dara
I constantly struggle with getting my kids into bed. I've actually given up on forcing them to get sleep, but I do try to get them to manage their time better. I told my 14-year-old, "It's on you. I'm giving you the responsibility to put yourself to bed and if you can't wake up and get ready on time, then it's your problem."
The problem with her is that she's up all night studying. She gets straight A's in school and she's a dancer. Her late-night study habits make her a total grouch in the morning. I had to sit her down and talk with her and lay down rules. It's great to be an amazing student and an amazing dancer, but if you're grumpy all the time, nobody is going to want to hang out with you. If you can't do fun stuff and then stay up until wee hours, do homework first. If you don't, I'm going to take away the fun stuff! And I really don't want to take away the fun stuff, I just want her to stop procrastinating and get some rest!
Besides being a parent, David Deluise is Jerry Russo on Wizards of Waverly Place.
