Kid by (School) Day, Goth by Night
Submitted by GiveBackToSchool
Our 10-year-old daughter decided over the summer that she wanted to be goth. Now, my DH and I have no problem with this, being metal-heads ourselves, but since the city we live in is the national headquarters for the Reorganized Latter Day Saints church, we knew she could have problems at school.
We sat her down and explained to her that while wearing all-black should be acceptable, she'd have to wait on the Victorian corsets and white makeup until she was a few years older! Fortunately she agreed with us. She lets her weirdness out at home, and around friends, where she can feel more comfortable; she's happy to wait to freak out teachers until she's in high school.
Remember gang, "normal" is a setting on a washer—let your kids be who they are!
