Nanny 911: Parenting a Wild Child
My mouthy 5-year-old boy has been kicked out of two different day cares because he lies a lot and can't sit still. I need some advice on how I can "tame" my wild child!
Use a reward chart with little "master mouthy." When he has a good day at school or at home, he can earn something like a visit to the park or maybe a playdate with a friend. This way you are showing him that he is getting attention for good behavior.
I'm wondering what the discipline tactic at his day care was and why things went so far as him being kicked out. I would also encourage you and his new day-care provider to be on the same page when it comes to monitoring his behavior. It sounds like, as always, consistency is key. The other thing I would consider is if it seems that he is not capable of controlling his behavior, then talk to your pediatrician about having him tested for ADHD.
