Cold weather and little kids!
This is for those of you who live in the snow, we just got back from 6 days of skiing with our family. My nieces and nephews who are 9-13 were great! My 11 year old was great...even my 1 year old daughter and 3 year old nephew were great! THEN were the 6 year olds a pain you know where? We live in Texas and it does get cold but nothing compared to the snow. We had all kinds of things to keep warm but my 6 year old daughter and niece cried at least 10 times in 6 days because their feet were cold, they couldn't move around with all that clothes on, their socks were crammed up, they got tired.... How do you handle the snow with kids like this?

I think it can take time to become acclimated to weather you're not used to. I would layer as much as possible and like pp's said, just limit the time spent outside if they're still uncomfortable.

i agree - limit out door activities in cold weather - i have lived in the chicago area all my life - so i have seen some nasty winters.. the first winter with my DD was riddled with negative tempatures. i also limit outdoor activities in heat as well.
now, i am a big wimp in the cold or extreme heat - if the weather is too cold, i want to cry - literally, i force back tears. in extreme heat i get angry. so i can empathize with your DD and neice..

in situations that could be uncomfortable we try to limit the length of time. when it snows here we have hills in the complex we go sleeding on. it would be great if we could stay out all day but the little people cant take it. physiologically small people dont regulate their body temperature as well as as adults do. it's harder for them to stay warm and cool down.
when we're out sledding we stay out for no more than 45 minutes. everyone comes back in, and we go back out again in a couple of hours.
