Hitting and throwing..
Fun, right? Not!!
My daughter is 16 months and recently she just loves to hit and loves to throw whatever she can get her hands on.
She's been throwing her dinner on the floor when she's done for a while now, but now she'll just throw her fork across the table. Her toys, sippy.
And the hitting! If one of her cousins is in her way or is doing something she doesn't like she will hit them. And I know alot of kids go through this, but, I want to put a stop to this, she starts daycare in September and I don't want her hitting throwing.
We usually give her one warning, and tell her to give "gentle touch" which she knows very well, and if she does it again, we tell her no, and then put her in a 2 minute time out, afterwards we show her a gentle touch again and usually tell her to go give whoever she hit a hug or kiss.
Just wondering what you all do with your kids, anything that really worked for them?

Forgot to add, we have also been showing her how to spread her arms and say, "All done!" when she is done eating. This is still a work in progress but she's getting there!

My daughter just turned 2. She was doing this stuff around the age of your daughter. If she threw something on the floor we will make her help us pick it up (this was usually cereal or a dry snack). If she threw her food from her plate on the floor, we would take her food and tell her that if she throws it, we assume she is done. Same for toys, sippies, whatever. If she throws it or hits someone with it, we take it from her. She has now gotten to where she will usually pick up food she spills ont he floor...she wipes up drink she may spill by accident (she wipes it up with her blankie, but good enough haha) and she is pretty good about not hitting. Of course, she's a toddler and will not do it every time.

next time she throws something, no matter what it is, make HER pick it up and put it away. if it's a toy, toy box, if it's a cup counter, ect.
Yup! I was going to say to do that.
