Frustrated with their diets

For the past three weeks I have been watching my nieces. I have them all day until mid-September. They're seven and five and have the worst eating habits I have ever seen. I don't know if it's just because my daughter is still so little and I'm just not accustomed to the diets of small children, but it seems completely wrong to me.

My SIL brings over gallons of premade Nestle chocolate milk, a bag of microwavable chicken nuggets, french fries, and Easy Mac every week. They eat nothing but that every single day. I have offered everything to them, but they will only eat that. They don't eat fruits, vegetables, fresh anything, and I have to force them to drink water throughout the day. I have made fresh fruit popsicles in hopes that they'd like them, but they refused to even try them. I put a side of carrots and ranch with their chicken nuggets one day they threw a fit that they were there. I've taken them out to eat and they act like infantile brats and refuse to get anything if chicken nuggets or macaroni isn't an option.

I don't know if I should begin insisting upon having them eat what I make, because honestly it's annoying to make lunch/dinner for me and my husband and then their disgusting crap food too. Should I say something to my SIL? I'm really just getting annoyed and grossed out.

I agree with talking to your SIL first. I'm fine with my boys eating those foods occasionally, but not every meal, and always with a veggie and a fruit (and plain milk or water)! Maybe you could explain it's easier for you to make one (healthy!) meal for everyone and see if she's OK with her kids eating it too. I agree too with trying to graadually expand their horizons and help them realize healthy foods can taste good too!

i think the first place you should start is your sister. maybe she's just sending over what would be easiest for you, or what's cheapest for her to provide. maybe she WANTS them to eat better, but just doesnt know where to start. i know i'd be loathe to tell some one "by the way i know my kids are brats about food, why dont you fix that for me!" she also might not appreciate the effort.

try chocolate soy milk, or even better vanilla soymilk with ovalteen. we used less than half the rec. serving for ovalteen.

BTW, the chicken nuggets the kathryn talked about, i make the same thing, only i bake them. if you get the good freezer bags you can make up alot at once, cook them about half way, then pull them out just like regular chicken nuggets. there are also lots of premade chicken nuggets out there that arent terrible for you. tyson makes one with a whole wheat breading.

fruit popcicles- i make banana pudding pops, i just mix smashed banana with chocolate pudding i've made using vanilla soy milk. if you're maing plain fruit pops i suggest adding in some sort of fruit juce b/c otherwise the water isn the fruit freezes into these pockets of plain frozen water which is yucky.

This is tough, I know I would be frustrated as well. You still have a whole month with them so I would call her and tell her that you are going to try to make the same food for all of you because making them a meal besides yours is becoming difficult. Start out the first day making homemade chicken nuggets, not the frozen kind. That way they like it and then tell them you made it. If they resist, hide the other stuff and tell them it ran out! They won't starve so only offer them what you make. As for the milk, that stuff is awful! Sorry, it is especially the pre-made. It's whole milk with sugar and syrup!

1kg chicken breast cut into chunks

1 cup of breadcrumbs

1 tablespoon of chicken salt seasoning

1 egg

Olive oil for cooking

Combine chicken salt with breadcrumbs in medium-sized bowl. Add egg to another bowl and stir gently with fork. Dip chicken breast into egg, coat on both sides and then coat in breadcrumb mixture. Heat olive oil (1 dessert spoonful for each batch) in medium-sized frying pan. This is just enough oil; deep frying isn't a good option for this recipe. Fry on each side until cooked through (approximately 5–10 minutes per side

Find a recipe of healthy homemade mac and cheese and give them that for dinner. Little by little introduce healthy food without a total change right away.

Hope this helps!!
