Help With Kids' Math Homework

My kids' school is using a new kind of math that makes no sense to me. How can I help with their homework?

Ah, yes, the dreaded moment that you knew would come sooner or later: Your child has surpassed you in math! Your first step should be to contact the teacher to see how your child is doing in math. If he's doing OK, don't worry about helping him. (Maybe he can teach you!) If your child is struggling, ask about coach classes or setting up extra time for your son or daughter to meet with the teacher.

You may be anxious not being able to be directly involved, but this is an excellent opportunity for your child to learn how to advocate for her/himself.
