Teach Kids to Pack Their Own Lunches

Teach your children about healthy eating by starting a "Make Your Own Plan." Take a few minutes to review which foods are proteins, which are fruits and veggies (no, fruit-flavored G0-Gurts do not count) and what is a good portion for a snack item. Then have them start by packing a protein (like low-fat cheese, cold cuts and yogurts), then add a full serving of fresh fruit or veggie, lastly a small snack (crackers, pretzels, granola bars) finishes off their meal. They'll love having the control and will eat what they have packed. You'll love avoiding the arguments and knowing they are learning about making good, healthy decisions about what they eat!
