Back-to-School Supplies for Kindergarten Through 2nd Grade
Before you run out and buy every folder and highlighter from the office-supply aisle at Target, check out this list of back-to-school essentials so you can send your kid to class with what he needs (minus the kitchen sink).
- Pencils: You'll want the chunky ones that are designed for early writers.
- Colored pencils, markers and crayons: Most teachers will let you know exactly which coloring supplies they like their students to use. Consider getting together with a group of parents and buying them in bulk from a discount warehouse store.
- Erasers: You can't go wrong with the big pink ones.
- Glue: Stick to the sticks for the early years. Less mess is always good.
- Pencil case or box: To hold all of the above.
- Bookbag or backpack: Check out our list of great backpacks for some cool options.
- Lunchbox: Our list of lunch supplies can save you from an uncool fate when you suggest an aluminum Joanie Loves Chachi number.
- Clothes: You remember how awesome it was to have great, brand-spanking-new back-to-school clothes, right? Don't forget to check your kid's inventory of socks and underwear.
- Sneakers: For gym class.
- Name tags: Label your kid's school supplies, backpack and clothes (or wave goodbye to all of his hats and mittens).
