Will my teenager's feet be damaged by wearing very pointy-toed, high-heeled shoes?
The extremely pointy-toed heels that are so popular these days aren't the best footwear choice for anyone. Wearing pointy-toed, high-heeled shoes at any age changes your gait (the way you walk) and can lead to a lifetime of painful foot, knee and even back conditions. If bunions or hammertoes run in your family, your daughter could also develop symptoms of these painful deformities by the time she's a young adult (which could result in the need for surgery to correct them).
I have a preteen daughter who frequently reminds me that her friends wear these shoes, so why can't she? My response is that a teenage body is still developing. You might try sharing this information with your daughter if you're concerned about her footwear.
