Is surgical breast augmentation safe for my 18-year-old?
At 18, your daughter is legally allowed to decide for herself whether or not to have breast augmentation. We discourage patients younger than this from having the surgery not only because they cannot yet make the decision for themselves but because the breasts may not have fully developed.
That said, the decision to have breast augmentation is a complex one, and the risks and benefits, effects on future pregnancies, as well as the need and cost of future surgeries—yes, there will be future revisional surgeries (to change size or repair ruptures, for example) every 15 years, on average—should be carefully considered.
