Bad Parenting Advice #46: School Lunch
My child throws away all of the fruit that I pack in his lunchbox each day. I'm trying to be a good parent and teach my child the value of a well-balanced diet. What should I do?
Do what I do and occasionally surprise your child with a lunch that consists exclusively of fruit. Sending your child to school with two pounds of oranges and nothing else in his lunch box will bring a smile to his face. Every child loves surprises, especially when they are hungry!
Expect your elementary school to applaud your parenting choices by sending a friendly note home signed by the guidance counselor. If your elementary school is particularly thoughtful, they will also supplement the lunch that you sent with a healthy and well-balanced school lunch (for which you will later be billed), consisting of chicken nuggets and cookies, chef's surprise, or, if you are lucky, nachos doused with cheese whiz. Where better to learn about and enforce the food pyramid than school?
