The way I get my son to cooperate is to give him two good choices so he doesn't feel like he's being pushed into doing things. Instead of asking him what he wants to drink, I ask him, "Do you want water or milk?" This way, I don't give him the chance to say "juice!" because it's not an option! He picks milk, he's happy; everyone's a winner!
