Dan Wells on Young Kids and Video Games

My son Jadon is almost 3, and while a lot of my friends have already introduced their kids to the computer by now, I just can't bring myself to do it. I am sort of scared for him to discover video games because I don't want him to discover all that fun. I love video games and I know how easy it is to get sucked into that stuff. I really don't want him wasting precious hours of his youth playing video games.
Jadon is a total extrovert. He loves new environments, he loves to ask questions and discover things. I want to explore with him! I want to walk around the neighborhood, turn over rocks and see what's underneath. I want him to develop his independence and exploration. While he's young, I'm going to encourage him to keep exploring his world.
I'm sure the time will come when he's obsessed with video games but for now, I want him to explore his world, not be stuck inside, on the computer, starring at a screen!
