David Lascher on Enjoying Things Your Kid Enjoys

I believe in listening to your kids and making yourself interested in what they're interested in. If it's princesses, then you gotta learn about princesses! They're not my thing, but my daughter is so into them that I had to get into them. I just got back from a Disney cruise. Before, that would have been my worst nightmare, but it was great! I know everything about the princesses now.

Before I had a daughter, I didn't even know the Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella stories, let alone which one wears the blue dress and which one wears the pink one. I was shocked that I didn't even know about those movies. How could I not know the story of Snow White and the apple? I mean, I guess I knew there were dwarves, but I didn't know the whole thing! For me it's great to have something to talk about and relate to with my 5-year-old. And it's great that we can talk about those things and then sometimes maneuver it into how it relates to real life. Sometimes your kids end up teaching you a lot of stuff when you're trying to find out what they're into.
