Mom Parenting: Think Before Judging My Ink

As my user name suggests, I am heavily tattooed. And as a tattooed mom, I have to ask: Why do so many people think that tats go hand-in-hand with me being a horrible person/parent? Just going shopping for clothes with my son is a chore because I'm followed around the store as if they expect me to start shoving stuff down my shirt, or that at any moment my son is going to go crazy and start tearing up the place. It's gotten to where I just expect it, but some days it becomes too much. Today I went to pick up my son from school and a couple of moms were talking about him and how well-behaved he is. They see that I'm his mom and they look at him and me as if we had just come from another planet, or I had just goosed them.

Usually I just go all crossed-eyed and laugh but today it hurt. Why can't people see beyond my ink?
