Natalie Morales: Fixer Parenting Style
Submitted by Natalie Morales
I'm totally a Fixer. As a working mom, you only have a finite amount of time before you get pulled in a million different directions, so I micromanage and multitask at the same time.
It's insane! I try to get everything all done at once, but I'm also a perfectionist, so I'm hypercritical at how I get things done, which doesn't always make for a good combination! Plus, I always want to be a good parent, so I feel guilty when I'm taking time away from my kids. For example, when I was off on maternity leave, I would sit down and try to do some work ... and then I'd get so into it that I'd end up ignoring Luke! I decided to hold off tackling work until the baby went down for a nap. I'm learning to stop myself from trying to do everything at once.
Sometimes, being a working parent, I miss out on the plum assignments. I missed out on Beijing because of my pregnancy. And of course, covering the election would've been exciting, too. But motherhood? This is the most plum assignment of all. And being a Fixer helps me get it all (well, most if it, anyway) done!
Besides being a mom, Natalie Morales is best known as a national correspondent and co-anchor for the Today show.
