Nanny 911: Dealing With a Child's Negative Attitude
How do I deal with my daughter's negativity? She's always saying things like "I don't like that!" or "That's not fair" or "This is boring!" ... and the things she's complaining about are pretty great things, like desserts, playdates, movies, etc. It's like she's just saying it to piss me off.
She knows this behavior bothers you, so try not to let it! I would respond with answers like "You don't have to like it," "Sorry you don't think it's fair" and "If you don't want dessert, that's fine." Stay calm and smile!!!
