Doing My Part to Fight Racism

It is sad day when I wake up and come to the computer and read such CLOSE-MINDED IGNORANCE!! When will this attitude change? I know it'll always be there but I don't understand it at all.

I am from a small town, I went to school where I could count the different-colored faces on my hands. It was more abnormal for me to see a person of non-white ethnicity but here I am more open-minded and accepting.

There is being proud of who you are as a person and then there is thinking you are elite. There is NO SUCH THING!! I am white and I find it appalling to see people who look like me think they are better than the person whose skin is darker or different. I am sick of hearing people generalize and say things are the way they are because they happen to be black or Hispanic or anything other than white.

People will continue to be held down until this attitude changes. My family is beautiful, perfect and there is NOTHING I would change about it. We have our struggles and our triumphs like anyone else does. We stand together and we are proud. Proud to have won against all the odds.

I look at people who feel the need to be hurtful and realize there is NOTHING I could do or say that will change this. I will teach my kids to hold their heads high and to know they are exactly what they are suppose to be, A PERSON. A person who loves, who has hopes and dreams. A person who breathes, feels and cries, hurts, bleeds, has fears and desires just as everyone else.

I will teach them that they are entitled to everything there is out there and to not limit themselves in what they can do. I will not shelter my kids from the ignorance they will encounter because in the end it will only handicap them. I will show my kids that there is GOOD in people and to not let the few out there deter them in their lives. So as I sit here and try to make sense of the thoughts running through my mind I hope you take into consideration the feelings of innocent kids who live their lives by examples set by us. Stop and think before you let the ignorance fly!!!!
