Nanny 911: Discipline Alternatives to Time-Out

My older son is becoming too heavy to lift when I want to put him in a time-out. He either runs away from me, laughing, or throws his body on the ground and goes limp. What can I do?

I am not sure what age your son is, but I suggest that you forget the time-out for the sake of your health. Move to the removal of a privilege. Something that your child really values, like a toy.

One warning–one consequence for the continual bad behavior that is getting your child in to this time-out situation over and over again. The other thing you can try is some positive reinforcement with the addition of a reward chart. This way your child realizes that he gets attention for good behavior.
