7 Items to Include in a Pretend Play Box
According to Tim Gunn, everyone needs certain basics in their wardrobe. The same rule could apply to your kid's dress-up bin. Here are some must-haves for your kid. Note: sizes are irrelevant - just include what works!
- Scarves, ties, sweaters, vests, and/or jackets from the past.
- The rock star basics: a microphone, sunglasses, and a mini-guitar. Have a kid who can't get enough music? Why not outfit a whole band!
- Old costume jewelry, wigs, and/or hair accessories.
- Hats and shoes for all occasions.
- Old flannel pajamas make great "scrubs" for young MDs, nurses, and scientists.
- Throw-on accessories such as a tutu, smock, apron, old oxford shirt, and/or grandpa's old glasses (with the lenses removed).
- Every Halloween costume your kid (or you!) has ever worn. Even if your kid has outgrown it, there may be some salvageable pieces you can cut out, or use the accessories.
