Summer Recipes: 20-Lemon Lemonade

<!-- -->

This juicy recipe calls for whatever kind of juicer you can get your hands on: a big fancy press squeezer, an electric juicer or any kind of hold-in-your-hand gadgets. Let the kids give it a squeeze!

  • ¾ cup sugar
  • ½ cup water
  • 20 lemons
  • Ice cubes
  • 1
Place the sugar and water in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Set aside to cool.
  • 2
    Slice each lemon in half.
  • 3
Squeeze the juice out of all the lemons. Remove the seeds by pouring the juice through a strainer. (Save the juiced halves to play one of the games suggested.)
  • 4
In a large pitcher, combine half the sugar water and half the lemon juice.
  • 5
Add enough cold water to fill the pitcher about ¾ of the way full.
  • 6
Stir well and taste. Is it too sour? Add more sugar water. Is it too sweet? Add more water. Is it not lemony enough? You know what to do. Experiment until the lemonade tastes just right.
  • 7
Add ice cubes to fill the rest of the pitcher.
  • Gadgetology offers great ideas for tapping in to kids' innate curiosity with additional ideas for play and cool experiments.
