Your Wonderful (but Challenging) Toddler
Let's face it: toddlers can be trying! But before you write the toddler years off as a total wash, it can help to try to understand the motivations behind their sometimes crazy behavior! Earn some parenting points by checking out these key toddler behavioral traits that'll help you understand your curious, sometimes kooky kid!
They're Curious Creatures
And the fact that they can walk and climb and jump is very helpful in satisfying their curiosity. They love exploring the world around them, so do your best to give them a safe way to do it!
They Learn from Experimentation
And sometimes those experiments mean trouble! He just wants to understand if it's possible to paint the entire wall with a Sharpie.
They're Demonstrating Their Independence
A toddler's primary purpose right now is proving that THEY are separate from YOU. And rebellion is a surefire way to do it.
They Need Unconditional Love
And they'll keep pushing limits to get it! Every time they misbehave and you love them anyway, they're learning it.
They're Impulsive
Which is just a nice way of saying that self-control isn't their strong suit. But don't worry; they grow into it!
Their Memories Aren't Fully Developed
So much like many of us, they may have a tough time remembering things ... like the rules, or where their toys are supposed to go, for instance. He's not ignoring you on purpose, he's just having a hard time remembering everything he's learning!
They're Self-Centered
Your toddler isn't great at understanding how other people feel yet, so don't expect a ton of sympathy on her part. She's just not ready to see the world through any other eyes than her own right now.
