Do I Really Have to Play Princess Tea Party AGAIN?
Submitted by Oregonian
My daughter just asked me to play princess tea party with her. Again.
Of course, I said yes. I pasted a silly smile on my face, wrapped a pink feather boa around my neck and sipped fake tea out of teensy tiny mugs like someone who played tea party for a living.
And, I hated it. I love my daughter. But, I hate princess tea parties. And Star Wars light sabor fights. And building castles out of blocks.
I'm just not a play-on-the-floor type of girl. Call me selfish, but I just think about all of the things—real, adult things— that I could be doing: reading US Weekly, watching daytime TV, mopping the floor ...
But, then I remember that there will be a day that I'll want them to play with me. A day that I'll bed them to sit and have a cup of tea with me as they rush off to be with friends.
And so I play princess tea party. I smile. I laugh. I pretend to have fun. And I hope my daughter doesn't notice that I'm daydreaming about my Cosmo.
