Toddler Choking on Juice

I haven't done the full switch over to the sippy cup because my son chokes on juice, water, or milk. Then he gets tired of trying and gives up and I end up wasting all that juice or milk. Am I the only one with this problem?
I'm also having a problem with him feeding himself. Sometimes he does it, but when he does he gives up.
