Toddler Attention Span?

My 23 month old son is very energetic and smart. But when I try to have learning time with him, or teach him things like his body parts or reading books to him, he will not sit still or even pay me any attention. He would rather play with his toys or go back to doing whatever interests him at the time.
Is this normal or should I be worried its something else?
