The Naked and $75 Potty Training Method
I have 3-year-old twin girls. They seem to love big girl panties, but will not keep them dry. I have tried giving rewards, but that only works sometimes. Are there any other potty training methods I can try? —rbjaco
A lot of time children who resist using the potty or toilet may be confused about exactly what needs to happen during the elimination process; even if they appear to "completely understand." It's all very mysterious to them. To help improve the twin's potty perception and become more sensory aware, you might consider trying out the "Naked and $75" method developed by Dr. John Rosemond.
Allow your girls to run around nude from the waist down. (Obviously, this is easiest on hard washable flooring or outside during warm weather.) Going "commando," without the security of a diaper, should help alleviate any fears your girls may have about what happens when they go. And, hopefully, it will encourage them to hold their urine/BM's until they are on the potty or toilet.
(Coincidentally, Dr. Rosemond, calls this the "Naked and $75" method because the $75.00 is for the cost of having your carpet cleaned! And be sure to avoid this method if you have a pet. Take my word for it, it isn't pretty.)
