A Bad Case of the Potty Training Blues!

My husband and I have been trying to potty train our son for about 3 or 4 months... and he has been VERY resistant!
He even goes so far as to take off his undies or pull-up and poop on the floor when hes supposed to be napping! But it doesn't stop there... he then takes what ever toy he has in the floor and smears his poop around every where!!!
I have spent so much time cleaning his door, his floor, and bleaching toys that its becoming a routine! I tried making him go before nap time, he just won't! I've even had to go so far astearing the carpet up in his room and putting a big rug in there so it can be taken out and cleaned. I really dont know what to do!!!
Any advice?
