Helping Teens Celebrate Valentine's Day

My adolescent son wants to celebrate Valentine's Day with his girlfriend. Can you recommend some age-appropriate ideas for him?

Keep in mind, at this age your son may not want any dating advice from his parent. After all, anything the parental units suggest may be immediately discounted. That being said, girls at any age like to feel special. So, the fact that your son puts some thought into the celebration will be very meaningful to her.

He might want to choose an activity that he knows she would really enjoy, even if it's not his first preference. For example, he might agree to see a "chick flick" or take her to something other than a fast food place, putting her desires over his own. A personalized gift, such as a favorite kind of stuffed animal, flowers in her favorite color, the latest CD from her favorite singer/group or a customized iPod playlist will most likely be a big hit. He doesn't have to spend a lot of money to show her she is his one and only valentine.
