Christmas Ideas; Don't Cry Over Spilled Eggnog!
Submitted by Sisu
"It's just eggnog," my husband comforted me last night. "We'll make you some in a few weeks." But my tears came anyway.
"A few weeks" just isn't good enough! I want eggnog right NOW! And the fact that this holiday season I can't drink any, not even a little sip, has reduced me to a trembling, emotional mess.
My friend Anna has an amazing holiday eggnog recipe: slightly sweet, rich and creamy and chock-full of holiday cheer. Bourbon. Rum. Vodka. I have no idea what kind of alcohol she uses, but whatever it is, she uses it liberally. Her eggnog is something that I look forward to every Christmas.
Except this Christmas. You see, I'm nine months pregnant, bloated, sick, emotional, swollen and cranky, I'm in no mood to celebrate. And to make matters worse, everyone around me seems to be living it up, enjoying the holiday season more than ever! That makes for one bitter pregnant woman—and Hell hath no fury like a nine-months pregnant lady who just wants to hurry up and deliver already.
It's not just the eggnog. It's the dancing that I can't do, the clothes that I can't fit into, the food that I can't enjoy and the fact that every few minutes I am hit with a contraction that taunts me with the possibility of labor.
Personally, I think that Christmas ought to be a day off from pregnancy. A strike of sorts. A one-day reprieve. Pregnant women everywhere should be able to giddily climb into their favorite pre-pregnancy black pants and slinky red tanks. They should eagerly chow down on hors d'oeuvres without fear of heartburn and sip hot mulled wine by the fire long into the night without falling asleep on the couch!
If only. It would sure save a lot of husbands the pain that's sure to come from an eggnog-less Christmas.
