Who says ornaments are for Christmas only? If you're looking for fun Hanukkah ideas, these super creative Hanukkah ornaments are so pretty, you could give them out as gifts.
  • Baker's clay dough (recipe below) or several packages of polymer clay (available at craft stores); each package makes one ornament
  • Hanukkah cookie cutters
  • Metallic gold or bronze acrylic paint
  • Blue acrylic paint
  • Gold and silver glitter
  • All-purpose glue
  • Light purple sequins
  • Pearl beads (optional)
  • Acrylic varnish/sealer
  • String or dental floss for hanging
  • Baker's clay dough recipe (optional):
    1. 3/4 cup all purpose flour
    2. 3 tbsp salt
    3. 1 tsp cooking oil
    4. 1/3 cup water
  • 1
If you're making the baker's clay dough: Put the flour, salt, and oil in a bowl. Add a little water and mix until you have a smooth and thick dough that doesn't stick to the sides of the bowl. If the dough is too sticky, add more flour. If dough crumbles too easily, add more water. Then, sprinkle flour on your working surface, and knead dough until it is smooth. The dough can be stored in a sealed container for a few days in the refrigerator.
  • 2
Pound out clay to a thickness of about 1/4-inch.
  • 3
Cut out shapes using the cookie cutter.
  • 4
Use items from the kitchen to add detail to ornaments—bottle caps, skewers, forks and dull knives are all good tools. Don't forget to make holes for hanging!
  • 5
Roll out some little balls or square shapes to use as beads.
  • 6
If you used the baker's clay dough recipe, bake in a preheated oven at 250 degrees for close to three hours (yes, really) until firm. Baking time varies depending on thickness of ornaments; you may need to turn them over halfway through. Ornaments are finished when they are hard throughout. If using polymer clay, bake according to directions on package.
  • 7
Once ornaments have cooled, paint as you wish.
  • 8
To apply glitter, brush on white glue with a paint brush and sprinkle glitter on top. Once dry, shake ornament to dislodge any extra glitter.
  • 9
Apply sequins and pearl beads as desired.
  • 10
Give ornaments a protective coat of glossy acrylic varnish and set aside to dry for at least 12 hours.
  • 11
Insert string or dental floss as a hanger, then add clay beads if you'd like.
  • 12
    Have a Happy Hanukkah!
  • Small lightweight ornaments can be used to make magnets; glue a magnet to the back!

  • Make some festive jewelry by affixing a pin back to your favorite piece.
